May has been a pretty hectic month for me in terms of school because all of the projects I have due, so I’m sorry that this post is going up a little late! I hope you enjoy what I have in store and like always, let me know what you’ve been loving the past month!
Desert Essence is one of my favorite brands, but I haven’t bought anything from them lately so I decided to give their 100% Pure Jojoba Oil a go. This was my first time buying jojoba oil (I know, I know I’m pretty late getting on this train), and I’m actually really happy about my purchase. Jojoba (pronounced ho-ho-ba) oil is a great multi-use product like coconut oil, but I find it gives me just a tad bit more moisture and there’s hardly no scent whatsoever. I love using it right when I hop out of shower as a body oil, I use it as an eye makeup remover or sometimes I oil cleanse my whole face with it. I also use it on the ends of my hair, and it’s pretty awesome as a cuticle moisturizer. Desert Essence also sells a 100% organic jojoba oil, but it was a couple bucks more than the 100% pure kind, so I decided to buy the cheaper variety just to test it out.
Red Apple Lipstick has been one of those brands that I have been eyeing FOREVER, but have hesitated to buy from because they’re just so dang expensive! But I guess their price points are reasonable considering they are vegan, gluten-free, allergen-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free, corn-free, and they offer non-GMO products. About a month ago they were having a 15% off sale on their light eyeshadows and I also had a 10% coupon on top of that, so I thought aw what heck, why not try their eyeshadows! The shade Sand Castle is described as a “soft yellow color, just like perfect golden sand!” In reality, it pulls more light brown, beige-y, and almost pinky to an extent rather than golden yellow. The formula is super silky, it’s quite pigmented, and it’s definitely a great all-over-the-lid color when you just want to put something on to complete a look.
Recently, I won a Leahlani Skincare mini perfume sample get on Instagram from the lovely Hilary (@organic_brighteyed_beauty). Lychee was definitely a stand out among these adorable little glass bottles because it smells so fruity, but not like your typical Victoria Secret or Bath and Body Works fruity scent. Think of Lychee as a tropical fruity scent, but not like a piña colada. That may sound weird, but it’s probably the best way I can describe it! EDIT: I previously said that Leahlani does not sell Lychee, but they actually do! I updated the link above that will take you directly to the listing on Leahlani Skincare’s Etsy page.
Last month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box was a definite home run in my opinion. One of my favorites from the box was a little tiny, full-sized jar of eye cream from Athar’a. I had never heard of the brand, but I was super intrigued because I wanted to try out a new eye cream. I was pleasantly surprised after using this for about a month. Athar’a claims that their eye cream provides anti-inflammatory benefits and reduce dark circles and puffiness, it will regenerate the delicate skin around your eyes, and that it will soothe and nourish the delicate eye are, while softening lines and wrinkles.
Now, I have dark circles and my under eyes have little fine lines because my eyes happen to be where I express the most emotion on a daily basis. That sounds weird, I know, but I am constantly squinting and relaxing my eyes when I have conversations on a daily basis. I have absolutely noticed a difference in my under eyes after using this product for a month. My fine lines are diminished, a bit of darkness has been reduced, and overall that area feels so moisturized when I wake up in the morning! I wouldn’t label it a holy grail product at the moment, but I definitely am loving it and all of its lovely ingredients like coffee seed oil, green tea, organic avocado oil, organic aloe, and organic argan oil.
Even though the Athara eye cream does help out my under eye area tremendously, I still like to brighten up and camouflage my under eyes. I was watching a video from Kendra (@vlogwithkendra on YouTube) where she reviewed Alba Botanica’s Fast Fix line of products that are designed to, well, fix certain problems fast. The Fast Fix for Under Eye Circles stood out to me because it’s essentially a yellow-toned concealer. When I got my hands on it I noticed that it is quite a creamy consistency, however it’s not too hydrating so I strongly recommend prepping your under eyes with some moisturizer. This Fast Fix doesn’t completely, cover my under eye circles, and I’m okay with that honestly. It does diminish their appearance and it brightens up my under eyes, which was what I was hoping for. The ingredient list doesn’t look too terrible too and Alba Botanica says that this Fast Fix contains no parabens, phthalates or synthetic fragrances, it’s made with 100% vegetarian ingredients, and it’s hypoallergenic.
Lastly, I have an awesome cleanser that takes off makeup like a dream! I ran out of my beloved One Love Organics Cleansing Oil, so I wanted to find a cheaper alternative that had a clean ingredient list. Hautelook.com actually had a sale on Sibu Beauty one day, so I decided to pick up the cleanser because I had heard people raving about it before. And I say that it does live up to the hype. This consistency of this cleanser is almost gel-like, but it quickly lathers up once you put it on your face. It smells citrusy without being too pungent, and it contains little beads that provide barely any exfoliation, so sensitive skin types should be safe to use this. It also doesn’t sting my eyes, which I love because I get right up in there to remove my eye makeup with ease. If you’re looking for a gentle cleanser that won’t dry out your skin, but can still remove makeup I would give this a try!
May 11th marked my 3 year anniversary with my boyfriend and he took me out to try on some rock climbing shoes. I didn’t know he was planning this, but he ended up buying me these shoes, which happen to be my first pair! These shoes are meant for beginners because they are flat versus advanced climbing shoes that normally curve downwards at the tip of the toe in order to securely wedge your foot into tight spots.I’m a beginner at rock climbing, but using rental shoes was getting pretty mehhh and honestly now that I have this cute pair, I’ve noticed a difference in my climbing. I don’t slip out of foot holds like I did with rentals and overall my feet feel nice and secure when I climb. I know these shoes are expensive to anyone who doesn’t rock climb, but if you are serious about rock climbing, I believe investing in a quality pair of shoes is essential so that you can climb a bit better!
And that concludes my May Favorites! A couple of links to the products I mentioned will direct you on over to Vitacost.com and if you click the link HERE you get $10 off your first Vitacost purchase and I get $10 in return. It’s an awesome win-win situation with no gimmicks!
As always leave me some love down below in the comment section and tell me what you’ve been diggin’ the past month and if there’s anything you recomend I should try!
