June and July have been crazy busy months for me so far (if you haven’t yet, catch up with me on my Life Update post)
Because of all the happenings in my life at the moment, I really didn’t get a chance to try out too many new products. So, the June’s favorites is going to be pretty short and let’s just jump right into it!
I love doing my eyebrows and for the longest time the Zuzu Luxe cream eyebrow pencil in Jet has been my go-to. This has changed somewhat thanks to last month’s beauty box from Vegan Cuts. This Emani trio in 403 Cocoa comes with a warm-toned light brown, a darker neutral/slightly warm brown, and a charcoal black. The charcoal black is a softer shade of black, but it can look too harsh on its own and the darker brown shade pulls a much warmer tone that doesn’t match my brow hairs, so what I like to do is to mix the two shades with an angled liner brush to get a defined, yet natural eyebrow look. The wear-time of this eyebrow trio is pretty fantastic, in my opinion. I didn’t notice any fading, smearing or streaking during an 8-hour shift, so my eyebrows stayed as flawless as they were when I first did them in the morning.
However, I notice that it takes me longer to do my eyebrows with a powder vs. using a brow pencil, but the payoff is that you get a softer, more natural look in the end. If you have the extra time, I would definitely check out this eyebrow trio by Emani!
I totally believe in buying from local businesses and when I found out that a company called Primal Pastures was just in my backyard I totally hopped on the chance to try them out. I have heard rave reviews about their Primally Pure deodorant, so when I used up the rest of my deodorants I quickly placed an order to try out this deodorant in the Lemongrass scent. Now, shipping was around $5-6 or you could drive out to Temecula, CA to pick up your order. I chose the latter because I wanted to save money, but unfortunately I couldn’t find their location, so I left empty-handed. I quickly sent out an email and Bethany replied back to me with a sincere apology and offered to ship my order for free! Now that’s what I call customer service! Seriously, little efforts can make or break relationships and it was nice to receive that treatment.
But onto the review of the deodorant! So, it’s lemongrass, right? Well, it’s a very strong lemongrass scent that’s not medicinal-smelling, and is more on the light, refreshing spectrum. But still, I can see some people who may not potentially like it. But never fear, this deodorant comes in three more scents: Lavender, Tea Tree, and Unscented. You can also choose if you want the baking soda formula or the sensitive formula sans baking soda. I personally chose the baking soda formula to see if I was sensitive or not. Turns out, I don’t experience any irritation with the normal formula, even after shaving (however you’re not technically supposed to do that, but hey I’m impatient)! This deodorant leaves me smelling fresh for a full 8 hours, which really surprises me because I’ve never experienced that type of odor-fighting power (BIG NOTE: This is a deodorant and not an antiperspirant, so you will still sweat)!
The only downside to this deodorant is that it can stain the underarm region of your clothes because it does have coconut oil in it. To combat this, you can apply the deodorant with your fingers so you’re not over-doing it or you can pre-treat your clothes by dampening the area with water and them pat in some baking soda onto the stain. Let the baking soda paste dry overnight, throw it into the wash using cold water, and let your clothes hang dry. AND PRESTO! Your clothes will be good as new! So yeah, if you’re used to natural deodorants then I would check out Primally Pure’s version if you’re willing to do the extra steps to take care of your clothes.
Body scrubs have recently become a must-have for me, especially now that it’s summer and my legs will be out and about more often. I’ve always heard great reviews about 100% Pure’s fruity body scrubs, but when I saw they have a coffee-chocolate body scrub that was being discontinued, you didn’t have to tell me twice to click that “Add to Cart” button! The smell of this scrub is the most divine, yummy scent I’ve smelled to date. It’s a rich dark chocolate and coffee smell that you will seriously want to eat (but don’t because it’s not made for that). The grit of this scrub is very fine, but rough enough so you feel like you’re getting a great exfoliation. Thanks to rosehip and apricot oils your skin is left feeling soft and moisturized. I really love using this scrub before I shave because I can slough off any dead skin cells, but my skin is protected by a layer of oil so I don’t nick myself with my razor. $24.50 may sound like an investment, but trust me a tub of this stuff will easily last you 3-4 months.
Yes, I know this isn’t a natural/organic/non-toxic item, but it was just so dang cheap and cute I couldn’t resist! Also, I don’t use this product on an everyday basis, so for me this purchase was totally justified. Crusin’ Chic is a lovely mauve-y/almost bronze/kinda purple cream eyeshadow with fine gold shimmer throughout. It’s that perfect all-over nude color that you could wear both day and night. It seriously just completes a look or adds a little something extra if you’re going for a minimal makeup look. The packaging is super convenient and all you need for blending is your fingers! The only potential downside I can see from this product is that it can be overly creamy and therefore it can crease if you’re not careful. I like to use Christopher Drummond’s Duo-Phase concealer as an eye primer before applying this eyeshadow because the concealer definitely holds the eyeshadow in place.
Recently, I won an awesome Instagram giveaway from the lovely Kate of HerBalancedLife.com. In that huge green beauty giveaway I received an Au Naturale cream blush in a natural, pinky-mauve color called Sweetheart. Cream blushes are great for a much more dewy, flush of color-type of look, but I didn’t have a stippling brush at the time I received my prize, so this cream blush kind was kinda pushed to the side for a while. I did try to blend this blush in with my fingers, but I didn’t have much luck using that method. I finally invested in a Real Techniques stippling brush and now this blush is my everyday cheek color!
It’s quite a sheer wash of color at first, but you can easily build it up to be more opaque and noticeable. I love this cream blush because it looks far more natural than a powder brush (on me at least) and the ingredients are pretty awesome too. It’s formulated with organic meadowfoam oil, organic jojoba oil, and organic castor oil just to name a few. The packaging is a sleek metal tube that looks like a lipstick at first glance. The fact that it comes packaged like this makes it perfect for travel or to just simply throw in your purse. If you want an easy, take with you anywhere type of blush I would highly recommend this cream blush by Au Naturale!
And that’s what I’ve been loving this past June! Let me know what you’ve been loving in the comment section down below! Stay tuned as I review a recent 100% Pure order I made! I definitely have some loves from that order, but unfortunately I do have one product that just does not live up to the hype. See you in the next one!
